The house has been transformed from a poorly constructed 1935 bungalow into an award winning, highly energy efficient, low embodied carbon home, with a 90% improvement in energy consumption using Passivhaus principles.

The approach to the design was to retain as much of the existing structure as possible, to maximise natural light and passive solar gain (whilst limiting unwanted solar); minimise cold bridges and optimise air tightness, using triple glazing, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR), an air source heat pump and photo voltaic panels (PV’s).

A carbon study was commissioned that shows a whole life carbon summary of 85 tCO2e compared to a statutory new build meeting Part L regulation of 198 tCO2e.
