The homeowners say;
"We have a small two bedroom semi with drive and garage and started our green journey in August 2020 initially with just 16 x 300w solar panels (8 east/ 8 west).
We purchased a Renault ZOE EV in November 2020 and added a GivEnergy 8kwh battery and hybrid inverter in February 2022. Upgraded our home charger to a Zappi2 in April 2022, and finally removed our Gas Combi boiler and radiators in August 2023 replacing it with a Daikin Air-to air heat pump/Air conditioning (2 external units) and five internal units, a Mixergy 150 litre smart tank and Smart Bathroom 300w electric radiator, removing the gas meter in September of that year to go 100% electric.
Our house was deemed unsuitable for an Air-to-water Heat pump so unfortunately we could not benefit from the government grant.
We were initially on the Octopus Go tariff but in November 2023 were able to switch to Intelligent Go with its 6 rather than 4 hours of off peak (8.5p down to 7.5p) and 15p kw Export rate (up from 8p) which has further reduced our energy costs by 29% (Nov-Feb).
The experience to date has been brilliant and the ability to cool the house being a joy in September 2023 where that heatwave meant our bedroom hit 30 degrees. Unfortunately it is likely to be even more the case in 2024.
We have done this in stages and at this point the only thing we may add in the future is further battery capacity now that we are 100% electric with heating, although our energy costs are still very low so no urgency at all."
