Come and see (and hear) an air source heat pump in real life.
Viewings can take place at any time, as the heat pump is at the front of the property. Directions - directly opposite the Rising Sun pub. Parking on-street e.g. Huntingdon St.

If you'd like a conversation with the homeowners about how the other measures, and how the system is performing, please book a time slot.

The 1930's bungalow has been extended and changed over the years, resulting a patchwork of different types of material, insulation and heating outputs and is no longer even a bungalow! Through our recent renovations we have tried to reuse materials and be conscious about the eco-credentials of our choices, and adding insulation and renewable energy.

We have installed solar PV panels (3kWp) through the Solar Together scheme. Since the panels were installed in October 2022 we are getting about 50% of our electricity from the panels (we have high usage, with an electric car). We also have 3kW battery. With lifestyle changes relating to when we plan to use our appliances and charging the car, we can rely on solar power in the summer, and keep costs down by using the battery to charge during cheaper times when there is less solar power.

The heat pump was installed in April 2024 when our boiler reached the end of its life. It is keeping us cosy already, heating radiators underfloor heating and hot waster. We had to switch 3 radiators only, and no chances to pipework. We already had a water cylinder, so that was a relatively easy switch. There is quite a lot of kit - pipework and additional buffer tanks (see videos below) - the installers found space for it in the existing airing cupboard and eaves storage area. We are at the start of the heating season so still getting used to the controls and timings. Looking forward to seeing how it does through the first winter, and whether we can keep costs reasonable. We're really pleased with it, knowing it's reducing our carbon emissions and working well to keep us warm. We have cavity wall insulation, loft and floor insulation, double glazing and the house should now be EPC B.
